Leaving Home

When forced to leave home after a fight breaks out in their city, two siblings venture out into the unknown, breaking past guards and vanishing into a forest. What happens when a world shielded away from them is so much less daunting than expected?

Story

Written in collaboration with Lucifer A.

Beginning in an industrial city that reeks of gasoline, and iron, (picture an orange haze in practically every area) the older brother has been working long days, and long nights in order to provide for his younger sister. He returns home, a cramped, dirty space unfit for living. After a short conversation with his sister, wherein the brother expresses how tired he is in a moment of vulnerability, he faints. (Let’s say he also described a few things that were ailing him)

When he awakens, he finds that he’s been dragged to his musty mattress in their living space, and tucked in. His sister is looking through a collection of newspapers across the room on the derelict kitchen counter. In recent times, a disease emerged in the city, one that is fatal if untreated. Unluckily, given the symptoms he has been experiencing, it seems that the brother has contracted this illness that was spread very easily through the factories full of workers.

They haven’t the means to leave the city to find a cure, until war breaks out. (This war could either be between the factory workers living in horrid circumstances, and the higher ups, or it could be an attack from a village that is sick of the far-reaching oppression of the corporations.)

Either way, they end up making it out of the city after (narrowly) sneaking past the couple guards who were left to protect the only exit from it.
